A story and-a-half barn built in 1930s or ‘40’s of good, 4-quarter lumber as a workshop and for storage by the fellow who was in charge of the volteers building the local firehouse—studs and joists on 16” centers, the former with cats and the latter with plenty of bridging. I would have pitched the roof more, but it has held up well as the only slightly sag ridge shows (which I have now collar-tied.)

The outside barn measurements to the nearest foot are as follow: 16’-8″ wide by 27’-6″ long and 16’-7”’ from bottom of rim joist to the peak cap. Given that it is platform framed, it would be possible to disassemble roof and gable end walls and then it could be moved on a lowboy, probably without line drops. Even with roof intact, it could possibly be moved with electrical line push-ups instead of drops. (Fir tree seen in photo can be removed if barn is to be moved.) The north and west walls have rigid asbestos cladding, the east and south walls have narrow reveal clapboard in good shape. There is 1” box board between studs and exterior cladding.
Twelve years ago I invested in a major renovation of the structure from below grod to roof peak including raising structure above grade on piers, all new joists, tongue & groove treated subfloor, AC plywood flooring, insulation, 60-amp electrical service and new roofing. I am selling the barn because I need money for work on my house, for medical expenses and to pay property taxes for the small nonprofit/charity I started 30 years ago.
If you have the abilities needed to tackle this project, or a contractor that does, you would get a far sturdier structure you can configure and finish inside as you’d like for noticeably less than you would otherwise pay for building or buying something of the same quality today. Speaking of cost, make me a reasonable offer–I don’t know what the barn is worth. If interested, please respond by email and we can set a time to meet and go over the building.
