I am a full time working artist with an amazing studio in E. Harlem that I’ve had for many years. It is very large, by NYC standards, high ceilings, has 2 large windows overlooking the street, absolutely amazing northern light that makes the space glow a steady light all day. It is outfitted with ample, updated over head general lighting as well as independently switched display/work wall track lighting. The building itself is all artists, each floor mana independently. Our floor has currently 4 active artists and one artist who is older and rarely there. Each studio is private, with a locking door. A hall bathroom is available. There is also a convenience slop sink in the studio that drains into a bucket.. it can be emptied when full in the bathroom. The space is approximately 12’x13′, has a solid butcher block work table and several stainless prep tables with palate glass. There is also a large flat file, file cabinet, small desk, floor to ceiling material shelves and built in art storage.
I have a 1 year opportity that may extend to a 2nd year. It is in and arod NYC but will keep me from going to the studio on a regular basis. So I’m looking to sublet (allowed by landlord).
I have two options I’m open to:
1- I am open to a share, whereby another artist would have full access to use the space 24/7. In this scenario I would leave my materials and stored artwork in the studio but you would be welcome to have use of all the work tables etc as suits your style. In this case, I might occasionally drop in to do some very occasional work, but would be the secondary partner, coordinating my time arod yours. Rent for this would be $800/month
2- The second option would be a full furnished sublet where I vacate all my supplies and stored art. All the shelves, tables and flat files would stay for you to use as you like. I would only come by as needed to repair things or check in if required. Rent for this would be $1400/month
There are 1-2 annual open studio events with ours and a sister building one block over which has a very nice draw each year.
Rent includes electricity for light, regular things such as drills and supplied heaters. If you use the window AC (available in studio) or high draw equipment there would be additional electric fees (the studio has its own meter)
This is a friendly and super low key studio space that has been a happy commity for 30+ years. These types of spaces just don’t exist anymore so this is a huge opportity. I would especially be interested in helping an emerging artist of any discipline to get a foothold but any serious artist with references will be considered. No hate, fascism, misogyny, antisemitism, racism, trans/homophobia, Islamophobia or similar corrosive behavior is permitted in this privately owned space. Those are the rules. Absolutely no living permitted.
